As the last step of the exercise, Consequences have a double purpose in the technical formation of the exercise.
As we said, along with the spiritual process developed in depths of the soul, the student should become self-conscious of the process, that is, he should acquire knowledge of his inner development and of the result achieved through exercise of prayer and application of the teaching to his own life.
Certainly, just the beginning of the purgative task of the soul, first step in the spiritual life of the meditator, is also the beginning of honoring the divine promise, the beginning of the Divine Union.
Is there any relationship between the seven classical subjects of meditation so far analyzed? Does this order respond to the process that naturally must develop in the soul of the meditator?
Meditation: The “TWO WAYS”. Effect: “DETACHMENT”.
Invocation:
I ask Him who right now I worship after the name of Maitreya to be my Guide and my Path.
My request is not to expect His Coming, but to tread on the path to Him.
Souls whose minds get tired by successive images and ideas need graphic and simple images and ideas for their exercises of meditation; for instance, as follows:
The “BLACK LADY”. Effect: “ABHORRENCE”.
Meditation: The “TWO WAYS”. Effect: DETACHMENT.
Invocation:
Oh Jesus in the Cross at sight of all, please show me Your Way, the only true Way marked by blood pouring out from Your wounds.
The “TWO WAYS”. This exercise, like all exercises in this series, is very clear and simple; its value rests on these qualities. It permits not only the realization of a perfect exercise, but also simplifies the soul processes.
The “BLACK LADY”. This exercise of the Black Lady not only simplifies mental activities but even expresses quite properly the fundamental idea symbolized by the Black Lady. She is not an enemy to fight while she is pure nature but only later, when that natural energy has entered the being and has denaturalized it.
The “TWO WAYS”. All souls in the world are predestined. One day, when the soul realizes its existence, freewill and ego, already this soul is almost formed: inadvertently, education, customs, society, habits and subconscious, have formed it rigorously.
A man that by the assistance of the Holy Masters has abhorred his previous life and is sunk in the desolated abyss confronts the Way to the Mount peak. So, he cannot continue only abhorring his personality and feeling desolate between a world rejected and a Heaven glimpsed, because the new way in front of him is an imperative invitation to the liberating journey.
